Essential repair works to the Eastern Dam at Chasewater Reservoir mean that there are concerns about summer water levels on the 198 miles of canal supplied by the reservoir. BCBF are working closely with British Waterways to ensure that water levels can be maintained for all canal users.
The main concern is a peak demand for water that cannot be matched by the alternative supplies identified by British Waterways. These peaks occur when a large number of boats move onto and off the Wolverhampton and Birmingham levels over a short period of time.
We believe that boats based on the Birmingham Level will cause little or no water usage. If boats attending from further afield can stagger their arrival onto and departure from the Birmingham Level then all boaters wishing to attend the festival should be able to do so.
Obviously the summer weather will also affect water levels and availability. Our plans may need to change.
It may be necessary to limit the number of boats attending the festival. If so, entries will be taken on a first come first served basis so please book early.
